Description

Delicious puff pastry hearts filled with hummus, pesto, and fresh toppings, baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (gluten-free or regular!)
  • 1 egg, whisked (for egg wash)
  • to taste hummus (any flavor)
  • to taste pesto (link to homemade recipe in notes)
  • to taste fresh tomato, basil, etc.
  • to taste nutella (link to healthy nutella in notes)
  • to taste fresh strawberries (for topping after baking)
  • to taste jam

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Lay the sheet of puff pastry out flat. Cut it in half vertically and horizontally to create 4 squares. Then cut each square into 4 smaller squares.
  3. Use a cookie cutter to cut a heart shape out of the center of half of the squares. Use a fork to poke holes in the remaining halves.
  4. Brush the squares with holes with egg wash.
  5. Place the heart squares on top of the holed squares.
  6. Place a small spoonful of hummus and pesto inside the heart cut out (be careful not to add too much!). You can also add tiny chopped tomatoes and parmesan.
  7. Pop the tray in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  8. Then bake straight from the freezer according to the box instructions (this may vary depending on the puff pastry you use). Flip the pan halfway through for even browning.
  9. When they’re golden, they’re done! You can top them with some fresh basil.
  10. Serve on a cute board for a fun serving option.
